I have quite the odd attraction to all things sailor style and I knew I had to have this Oleg Cassini jacket when I saw it. I bought this adorable jacket on etsy knowing full well a very cream coat on a very pale blonde girl would be a wash… quite literally. So i have decided to try to die the jacket black and add a trim around the collar as its kind of turned out and at the sleeves because they are a bit short.
The first try turned out better than i had pictured it might. I was mostly worried that dying the wool jacket would cause it to shrink into a mini version of its fomer self but the sizing kept and the color turned pretty dark…looks more navy than black with some obvious lighter spots but i know itll take time
Fast forward to two more dye jobs and here we are… there are residual problems that i still have a lot of work to do mostly the problem that the sleeve are much too short for my monkey long arms. Im praying i can use some extra black wool i have from another coat project and try to make a cuff that is like 3 inches long. As I currently have no experience with whipping a cuff up out of nowhere we will leave this up to fate (and probably trial and error).
After the third dying the jacket does look very black more black than it appears
And if i ever have copious amount of free time lying around I may reline the jacket because for whatever reason the dying has turned the lining into the weirdest wrinkled thing you have ever seen that no amount of ironing will resolve but who knows when, if ever that will be.
